Özet

The reality of translation as a work has changed over the years. Previously the client was dealing directly with the translator who was working on his own to translate projects. The process was expensive and time-consuming. With the advent of technology and the development of translation software, working on translation has become a collaborative work and the distances are no longer a hindrance to the collaborative work and that led to the emergence of the language services provider (LSP), which becomes an intermediary between all the actors who work on the translation production. Translation becomes a complex work that no longer confined to the translator and the client. Other actors such as the project manager (PM), proofreader and vendor manager (VM) appeared. Using Practice Theory concepts, the study analyzes routinized practices that PMs enact in through translation process, their integration of information technologies into such processes, their understanding of translation quality, and their strategies to achieve quality in the translation production process. The aim is to give a clear picture of the translation as a work in LSPs. A practice-theoretical framework emphasizes the socio-material and collective nature of the practice and helps to recognize the competences needed to enact in translation process. The study suggests that the translation is a joint work between the PM and other actors in the production of translation and stresses on the role of the client in the translation process and its impact on quality assurance, based on the principle of translation as a service. It also stresses that the technology has become an integral part in the practices of production processes and thus play an important role in the social structures surrounding practices.
